Just named 2010 "Human Resources Executive of the Year" at the American Business Awards, Steve has nearly 20 years experience in human resources within the public relations industry, specializing in recruitment and retention, employee relations, professional development and performance management.

Under Steve’s HR leadership, Makovsky + Company has achieved one of the industry’s highest employee retention rates, over 90% in 2009, and has continued to grow its pioneering “Mak University” education program. The firm has also been voted as “Best Agency to Work For” the past three years by the Holmes Report.

Prior to rejoining Makovsky + Company, Steve was with Alan Taylor Communications (now Taylor), where he served as Director of Human Resources during a period of significant growth and expansion. Previously, he was with Chandler Chicco and Fleishman Hillard.

He is an active member of the HR Roundtable of the Council of PR Firms and a frequent author of career advice columns in PRWeek.
