Matthew is an Executive Vice President – with a range of experience in the technology, media and energy industries - overseeing a team of communications professionals with deep expertise in corporate reputation and positioning. He understands how fragile brands can be in times of turmoil – and how powerful they can be if their reputations are burnished to a high luster. He serves as a senior strategic advisor to CEOs, executive management teams and high profile individuals addressing a broad array of communications challenges involving brand strategy, corporate reputation, issues management, media relations and global marketing.

His experience ranges from the cable industry to telecommunications to digital media to energy and sustainability. He has created and led successful campaigns for leading companies, including 24/7 Real Media, ADP, Cablevision, Cisco, Comcast, Digicel, DivX, Gartner, Joost, MasterCard, Motorola, Western Union and Yahoo! In addition, he has garnered the support of editorial boards at the nation’s major dailies for client positions on sensitive regulatory issues. And, his training and background in the financial markets enabled him to design strategies that smoothed the way for multi-billion dollar company mergers.

Prior to joining Makovsky, Matthew served as executive vice president of corporate and financial communications at Edelman and the North American Corporate Practice leader at Cohn & Wolfe. On the corporate side, he was Vice President of Marketing at SmartPipes (a Kleiner Perkins-funded enterprise software and services company); and directed global corporate communications and public affairs for Excite@Home, the largest cable Internet and broadband media company.

Matthew holds a bachelors degree from Hamilton College, where he majored in philosophy. He lives in New York City with his wife, son and daughter.
