Creating a Presence in e-Payments
With its acquisition of Harbor Payments, a leading provider of e-invoice and e-payment solutions, American Express was boldly staking its claim in the profitable electronic invoice presentment and payment (EIPP) market.
The company’s strategic move launched a new group called S2S (“Source-to-Settle”), with integrated solutions that could help its clients improve the efficiency of their financial supply chains. American Express engaged Makovsky to build a presence—quickly—in a field with big, experienced, reputable players. We dubbed our approach the “Big Bang,” blitzing the media and analysts with demonstrations of S2S thought leadership and expertise.
As a result, American Express’s chief procurement officer was ranked among the top 10 CPOs in both Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Purchasing Magazine. And within six months of launch, S2S signed more than a dozen new clients.
